Tasting note Domaine de Villaine Mercurey Montots 2017
Someone once wrote on Wine Beserkers forum, if I knew then, what I know now about wine, I could have saved myself a lot of money. Burgundy for me is the best example. Drunk over the course of two nights the Mercurey Montots 2017 from Domaine de Villaine proved to be fantastic value and strengthened my love affair with the Côte Chalonnaise.
This Burgund is quite dark in colour, concentrated nose of dark fruits, on the palate a fascinating combination of muscle and delicacy, the fruit is delicate raspberry, with underlying layers of sous bois, mushrooms. This wine will need 5-6 years to really open up and everytime I feel the need to pay inflationary prices for the Côte d'Or, I must open one of thes beauties.
